winemaker's notes:

Cabernet from this iconic 35-year-old vineyard always delivers power, structure and rich concentrated black fruit. This is a dense wine with great aging potential. This vintage is nearly pure Cabernet (99%) with intense dark fruit and long finish. I call this my steakhouse red!

alcohol by volume: 15.0%
critical acclaim:

"Year in and year out, the Cold Creek Vineyard sources perhaps the most ageworthy, perfectly structured Cabernet in the entire Ste. Michelle portfolio. In 2008 the alcohol hits 15%, yet the tight, dense, cassisladen body of the wine is intact, with an appropriate hint of herb. The length and balance once again suggest a wine that has decades of life ahead.

Wine Enthusiast

"Bright red-ruby. Sweet, inviting aromas of black raspberry, mocha, minerals, tobacco and mint complemented by ripe soil tones. Silky on entry, then sexy and seamless in the middle, with concentrated flavors of cassis, black plum and dark chocolate. At once plush and shapely, with ripe acidity giving the wine an impression of refinement. The ripe tannins reach the front teeth on the long finish, with violet and menthol elements providing lift. A lovely, classy cabernet. "

International Wine Cellar

"For thoughts on Chateau Ste Michelle’s uniqueness and recent evolution, consult my extensive April, 2013 text designed to introduce recent tasting notes. Sandalwood, vanilla, nutmeg, tobacco and ripe dark berries make for an alluring aromatic display in Ste Michelle's 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Cold Creek Vineyard and inform a broad, satiny palate with carob and dark chocolate undertones. Like other of the best 2008s – and in keeping with others from Ste Michelle, this retains delightful freshness of berry juiciness and introduces a saliva-inducing salinity to its sustained finish such as you'll find too seldom in a big-bodied North American Cabernet, much less one at this price."

The Wine Advocate

"Firm in texture, with chewy tannins around the core of tobacco-accented currant and floral flavors, finishing with finesse. Best from 2013 through 2016. 7,000 cases made."

rating (12/28/2012):

This is perhaps my favorite during the holidays. It was very full flavored with berry and oak. Mild choco but not too sweet. It left me wanting more.

Outstanding wine, very smooth. Great value at $30
rating (7/9/2012):
When this wine arrived to me, you could see a little of the wine had spilled out of the bottle. It had obviously overheated and I believe this spoiled the wine. It was bitter, I had to pour it out and waste the bottle, I have yet to open the second bottle but I fear it will be the same...
