Bordeaux is full of secrets that the natives like to keep to themselves. But some secrets are harder to keep than others. It's common knowledge that the Entre-Deux-Mers, Bordeaux's expansive, alluvial farm belt framed by two great rivers stretching far south and east of the city, is largely incapable of producing top quality wine grapes. Rather, this is an area well known for average wines at entry prices. What's far less known is that Entre-Deux-Mers has a sweet spot. It does. The terroir in the extreme northwest, near where the two rivers form one estuary that ultimately runs to the sea, is very, very good. This is where the town of Sauveterre de Guyenne is located and where Roc de Leveraut , a small, family owned estate has been growing Cabernet Sauvigon and Merlot for three generations.
