Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

A blend of 90% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc.

It is a wine with expressive fruit, an opulent nose of red berries, roundness on the palate, with good length and a harmonious and elegant finish. Chateau Pipeau is very delightful when young but it also has all the qualities for laying-down of a really great Saint-Emilion.

Critical Acclaim

"Shows black licorice, black pepper and berries on the nose. Full-bodied, with a solid core of fruit and ripe, chewy tannins, but in balance. This has very stylish flavors. Should be nice to drink soon. Always excellent value. Best after 2012. 11,665 cases made."

Over time, the...
