Winemaker Notes

The 2005 has a woody bouquet that is still closed. The attack is supple and fresh, followed by a certain fruit with body made by the tannins which still need to blend in.

Professional Ratings

Shrewd Bordeaux buyers have long followed this excellent Medoc estate, whose wine can easily be confused with a St.-Julien or Pauillac. The 2005 is an undeniable sleeper of the vintage. Dark plum/purple-tinged with a beautiful nose of new saddle leather, spice box, black currants, and a hint of unsmoked cigar tobacco, it offers medium body, admirable richness, decent acidity, and ripe tannin. Although it will be drinkable in 4-5 years, these wines have an excellent track record of evolving for two decades or more.

Chateau Lanessan Winery Image
Domaines Bouteiller lies in the commune de Cussac-Fort Médoc, in the heart of the Haut-Médoc, and consists of three internationally known estates, Chateau Lanessan, Chateau Lachesnaye and Chateau de Sainte Gemme. Domaines Bouteiller extends over 380 hectares on the outskirts of the village of Saint Julien and on the Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée Haut-Médoc 'terroir' and includes 80 hectares of vines, most of which are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, though Chateau Lanessan has some Cabernet Franc and Petit-Verdot.

The vines need special care throughout the year through pruning and "sécaillage", or "tying up", which add to the quality and typicity of Domaines Bouteiller wines. Every stage of winemaking takes place in the winery and the ageing cellars. Here, we carry out all the tasks required to produce a vintage wine – harvest, vinification, blending and bottling – with all the care that the "new-born infant" requires.
