Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

The Tradition Chateauneuf-du-Pape is the total expression of the power of symphony. With each mouthful, you sense the release of the most beautiful sonorities. This wine draws its power and mellowness, its color and its solidity from the three pricipal grape varieties - Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre.

Critical Acclaim

"Lush and alluring, with perfumy anise and black tea notes up front, leading the way for a core of crushed plum, boysenberry and blackberry fruit. The long, stylish finish has good flashes of iron and lavender. Best from 2013 through 2020."

As the name suggests, the wine region was named after the new papal home, referring to the period of time in the 1300's when the pope resided in Avignon instead of Rome. Notable Facts...
