With so much spicy fruit, intensely ripe blackberry flavors and solid tannins, all the elements of excellence are here, and powered by a firm structure. This wine has weight and a fine Cabernet concentration.

James Suckling
This has a very good depth of fruit and silky tannins. Layered and pretty. It has a serious finish for the vintage. Currants. Hints of hazelnuts. Like it. This should be better than 2011. Look forward to seeing them against one another in bottle. 92-93

Wine Spectator
Solid, delivering a beam of cassis, plum and blackberry fruit lined with graphite and ganache notes. This has solid flesh through the finish and good energy overall.
Barrel Sample: 89-92 Points
Since the 1980s, Gruard Larose has been held by groups of institutional investors before coming into the hands of the Merlant family in 1997. The vines are in a single block on a rise consisting of deep red gravel. Georges Pauli and his team have been responsible for winegrowing since 1970. Due to their expert care, Gruard Larose's soil is able to express its full potential. The wine is more than ever worthy of its Second Growth status in the 1855 classification.
