Rosé from Russian River, California
Fresh and engaging, yet impressively complex, this is a truly sophisticated Pinot Noir Rose that will be superb with a wide range of foods. Its aromas are initially shy, but with a bit of airing they come forth in an intriguing mix of wild strawberry, Maraschino cherry, watermelon, nectarine, yellow rose, pink peppercorn and roasted grain scents. On the mid-palate the wine offers the same lovely fruit, yet is firmly dry, cutting in zest, sleek in texture and enlivened by pretty citric highlights. The finish has vivid focus and is extremely long, carrying sweet-natured flavors of nectarine, strawberry, watermelon and roasted grain, tied to citric-mineral notes that cut through it all like a knife. It will be as tasty with raw oysters as with Cioppino or Chicken Paprikash.

Smells a lot like a white wine and tastes like one as well, offering tangy citrus and orchard fruit flavors that gain depth with aeration. This complex wine has the depth to handle richer foods but the vivacity to work by itself too."
Chasseur Wines is dedicated to small lot, hand-crafted wines in the old French tradition with emphasis on vineyard designates. Our small size (presently about 2,700 cases) allows complete control over the winemaking process, therefore, enabling us to produce the finest wines the fruit has to offer. We are pursuing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay's final and possibly finest frontier, Sonoma's 'West County'. Still in its renaissance this area is composed of the western edge of the Russian River Valley and beyond, known as the 'true' Sonoma Coast. This area is in and around the townships of Sebastopol, Freestone and Occidental.

The Russian River Valley is named as such due to its proximity to the Russian River, the river itself named for the Russian fur traders who came down from Alaska in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The Russian River is agricultural land. While there is a focus on wine, beyond the vineyards are many small, family-owned farms cultivating everything from cattle to Christmas trees.
Notable FactsThe proximity of this cool river and the rolling fogs from the Pacific Ocean make the area amenable to cool-climate grapes like Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. In fact, the region is quite known for its full-bodied, yet elegant Pinot Noir, as well as their ripe, yet lean Chardonnays. Within Russian River Valley lie the smaller appellations of Chalk Hill and Green Valley. Chalk Hill is the warmer of the two and furthest from the ocean, while Green Valley is cooler and closer to the water.

Alcohol By Volume GuideMost wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.
