Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

The 2013 Rosé is a gorgeous and vibrant pink color with streaks of salmon and fushia edges. Wild strawberry and watermelon aromas are interwoven with Herbs de Provence, citrus and mineral notes. These same flavors carry through to the palate where they intensify with a surprisingly broad and plush mouth feel that concludes with snappy acidity. Our goal is to create a tug-of-war of flavors between red fruit and savory notes, allowing the red fruit to just barely win out. This year Syrah dominates the blend again, but with important supporting roles of other Rhone varieties.

Blend: 86% Syrah, 6% Cinsault, 4% Grenache, 2% Counoise, 2% Mourvedre

Let's stay in the pink America! The bold, yet subtle in color 2013 Charles & Charles Rose is as good as any pink in the marketplace. Dry and rewarding, pair this one with roast duck over rice.

Learn About Charles & Charles

A collaboration founded in 2008 between Food & Wine Magazine Winemaker of the Year, Charles Smith (K Vintners, Charles Smith Wines) and Charles Bieler (Three Thieves, BIELER Pere et Fils, Sombra mezcal, and the Gotham Project). They produce just two wines each year, a rosé made in the old school way, and a cabernet sauvignon and syrah red blend. All the grapes for their wines are farmed sustainably in the Columbia Valley (largely in the Wahluke Slope AVA) by Butch and Jerry Milbrandt.

Learn About Columbia Valley

Columbia Valley is the largest of Washington State's wine growing regions, with almost 11 million acres. It encompasses a number of smaller regions, including Yakima Valley, Walla Walla Valley, Red Mountain and more. The vast area consists of a range of climates, allowing viticulturists to plant a diverse selection of grape varieties. Most wineries plant rows sparsely, which...

Learn About Rose

Rose(roe-ZAY) A Rose by Any Other Name Technically, a rose is an unfinished red wine, but the term seems so- secondary. Rose is a different sort of wine, with all the refreshing qualities of a white wine mixed with some characteristics of a red. It can be made from many different grape varietals and in many different regions, the most popular and successful being Southern France,...
