Winemaker's Notes

This is an amazingly rich, complex and satisfying wine filled with plush, ripe fruit and abundant spice. On the nose, enticing layers of dark cherry and blackberry combine with rich Bordeaux aromatics of sweet tobacco and cedar. Elements of chocolate and roasted coffee add a hedonistic dimension, with underlying new oak providing sweetness and elegant spice. The palate is broad and mouthfilling, with flavors of juicy, dark fruit, black currant, espresso and bittersweet chocolate. Supple, layered tannins accentuate this wine's velvety richness and weight, while carrying it through to a long, seamless finish.

Critical Acclaim

"Bright medium ruby. Musky aromas of cassis, tobacco leaf and red licorice; obviously a wine from a cool year. Boasts very good intensity, with ripe, penetrating acidity framing and enlivening the flavors of currant, pepper, herbs and tobacco leaf. The broad tannins are dusty but not dry and the finish displays good length and a light touch."

The Napa wine industry really took off in the 1980's, when vineyard...

Either way, this grape is responsible, as a whole or a partner, for some of the greatest wines in the world. In Bordeaux,...
