Critical Acclaim

"The 2005 The Widowmaker is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the En Chamberlin Vineyard. Opaque purple, the nose reveals toasty oak, minerals, scorched earth, an amalgam of black fruits, plum, and licorice. Smooth-textured, opulent, and full-flavored, the oak is totally integrated and every element is in harmony. Give it 8-10 years in the cellar and drink it through 2030. "
98 Points

"Smooth and generous, this offers a powerful blast of ripe cherry, rhubarb pie and strawberry jam, finishing with a meaty note. Has lots of personality, with a finish that won't quit. Cabernet Sauvignon."
91 Points

"Good deep red-ruby. Crushed cherry, pepper and spices on the soil-inflected nose. Juicy and gripping, with modest flesh but good cut to the almost pinot-like red fruit and spice flavors. Finishes spicy and fresh. I'm not sure I would have guessed cabernet sauvignon. From a crop level of just 15 hectoliters per hectare owing to very small berries and clusters, notes Baron. (A second bottle tasted later was distinctly lusher in the mid-palate and finished wonderfully broad and long.)"

Either way, this grape is responsible, as a whole or a partner, for some of the greatest wines in the world. In Bordeaux,...
