Critical Acclaim

"Baron’s 2006 Syrah Armada Vineyard displays bay, mint, and black tea accents to smoked meat, game, and concentrated, confitured dark berries. For all of its sheer confitured – nearly confectionary – sweetness, this preserves a remarkable (if for this address fairly typical!) sense of energy not to mention mouthwatering carnal depth in a superbly prolonged finish to which suggestions of peat, fruit pit, and stone add further complexity. Look for at least a half dozen years more of awesome performance. "

"This has tremendous presence, graceful but forceful, playing out its flavors of plum, currant, black pepper and licorice against a background that hints at warm granite, cinnamon bark and bay leaf. Complex and harmonious. Drink now through 2020. 476 cases made. "
95 Points

"Knockout nose and palate combine blackberry, smoke, black olive, garrigue, spices and pepper. Dense, round and opulent in the mouth, with a spectacularly silky texture to the middle palate. Finishes with sophisticated dusty tannins and outstanding palate-saturating length. This wine's superb slow-mounting whiplash of perfume (black raspberry, black olive, pepper, garrigue, smoked meat) is something to experience."

His sense of adventure, however, led him to become the first Frenchman to establish a winery in Washington State. While visiting the Walla Walla Valley in 1996, Christophe spotted a plot of land that had been plowed up to reveal acres...

Learn About Walla Walla Valley

So nice, they say it twice... Sharing part of the valley with Oregon, Walla Walla is on the southeast side of the Columbia Valley. It is primarily red grape land, with Cabernet Sauvignon leading in the vineyards, followed by Merlot and the ever-growing and very popular, Syrah. In the 1990's, as Washington State was gaining more acclaim for its red wines, Walla Walla was...

Learn About Syrah/Shiraz

(seh-RAH/shee-RAHZ) It's a Smokin' Grape Syrah and Shiraz - same grape, different name. It's a popular and adept variety, growing in multiple regions and creating many different styles of wine. The home base of Syrah is the Northern Rhone, where it creates the exclusive wines of Hermitage and Cote Rotie. On the less pricy side, the Rhone makes Syrah-based wines in Crozes...
