Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Castle Rock Cabernet Sauvignon was produced from grapes grown on the beautiful south-facing vineyards in the prestigious Columbia Valley, which shares the same latitude as the Bordeaux region of France. To soften and add complexity, it has spent 18 months aging in French oak barrels.

This full-bodied wine offers layers of concentrated flavors of cassis, blackberry, black cherry, and ripe plum, with a hint of light oak. All these flavors unite to form a long, smooth, and harmonious finish.

Critical Acclaim

"Castle Rock again surpasses expectations with this Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. It has clear Cabernet character, a soft mix of black cherry and cassis, delivered with a smooth and supple mouthfeel. There are well-integrated hints of coffee, cream and herb. Ready to drink right now, with enough heft to stand up to most grilled meats."

Great bottle of wine for the money. It's the "house" wine this month and we are enjoying it with pastas, pizza and more. It's easy going down and has a very smooth finish.

Either way, this grape is responsible, as a whole or a partner, for some of the greatest wines in the world. In Bordeaux,...
