Winemaker's Notes

Number 82 on the 100 of 2007!

Medium violet. Delicious. Aromas and flavors of blueberry, black berry with beef jerky and vanilla-spice.

"Young, dark and handsome, this is an example of what Jumilla can do when good grapes and good winemaking come together. The palate is chewy and full of earthy blackberry flavors, while the finish is smooth, ripe and long. Drink now through 2008. One of the best Jumillas you're likely to find."

Knew immediately upon opening that this was going to be special. Superb bouquet - of intense cherries & spring flowers. Very thick & rich in both nose and mouth. Could smell slightly higher alcohol content. Smoke, oak & tobacco followed with a slight peppery zip. Became better throughout the evening. We loved it!

We had this Monastrell on a cold and windy night in the Berkeley hills with a robust Ninam Ranch beef stew. The glass before dinner was intriguing; after an hour of decanting, it was superlative - complex, engaging, and altogether yummy with both the stew and the cheese course afterward.

I am not into the "tags" as they seem a bit pretentious for me. I don't know, maybe they help others in communicating. This wine was one of the best reds I have had in a long, long time. That it is so reasonably priced doesn't factor into my evaluation but it sure factors in to my decision to have ordered a case of it after I received a bottle as a gift.
