Wine Style Guide

Light & Fruity

Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.

Smooth & Supple

Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.

Earthy & Spicy

Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.

Big & Bold

Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.

Alcohol By Volume: 14.0%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Carmel Road, we've tailored our viticulture and winemaking techniques to capture the compelling character of our unique climate and soils. Our Pinot Noirs are known for their rich flavors and brilliant varietal characteristics. The wine is a rich and complex wine, marked by black cherry and roses with warm spice and refreshing raspberry tones on the velvety finish.

Critical Acclaim

"A restrained, even reticent nose of red and blue berry fruit that is trimmed in attractive spice notes leads to round, supple and overtly lush middle weight flavors that possess good mid-palate concentration on the dusty, long and delicious finish. While the finishing depth is limited, this very forward effort should drink well almost immediately."

Learn About Carmel Road Map ItMap It

Founded in 1996, Carmel Road's mission is to produce wine showcasing the unique nature of Monterey County terrior. Our debut release, the 1997 Chardonnay, demonstrates the potential of the Monterey County appellation to produce world-class wines. Located just a few miles over the ridges from the Pacific Ocean, Carmel Road produces wines from vineyards set against the Santa Lucia range and in the Gabilan foothills. Under the care of Winemaker Dan Kleck, the fruit emerges in wines exhibiting both a studied elegance and superb richness.
