Named for the proprietor's eldest daughter, Cambria Katherine's Vineyard Chardonnay is a wine that is both vineyard
designated and estate grown. The vineyard is located along the Santa Maria Bench in Northern Santa Barbara County and
receives meticulous care throughout the growing season.
"The 2005 vintage is bright with citrus, apple, peach, and vanilla aromas. Rich, mouthfilling flavors of grapefruit, citrus blossom, white peach and
sweet oak lead to a crisp finish with a lasting impression of spicy oak."
–Denise Shurtleff, Winemaker
When opened the wine has a piercing stone/mineral over citrus aroma similar to a Schloss Vollrads Qmp. With air banana & tropical fruit aromas emerge & the wine has a full CA Chardonnay fruit taste nicely complemented w/ an oaky dryness & noticeable (13.9%) alcohol. Tasty but not as smooth as the Sonoma Cutrer but nice @ the lower price. From 2d 1/2 btl: Wow, give it a couple days in a VacVined .375 ml bottle & it softens, becomes heavier & picks up slight apricot notes; nice! Note: this is the only vintage since `99 not rated >87 in major wine publications. Good buy ~ $12. T/WM898.
