Winemaker Notes

Our Petite Sirah comes from a single vineyard located just north of Calistoga. The Petite Sirah vines are 29 year old head trained vines that sit on one acre and they offer up dark, rich, concentrated fruit. The aromas are ripe black currents with hints of sweet vanilla. The palate has a soft entry with flavors of dark plum and currents that leads to a long supple finish.

C. Beck, California
Corey Beck was born and raised in Calistoga, where from the age of twelve, he spent his summers working alongside his grandfather, who was the vineyard manager at Chateau Montelena. Those summers with his grandfather inspired Corey's love affair with wine. Upon graduating in 1994 with a degree in Fermentation Science from the University of California at Davis, he returned to Chateau Montelena as Cellar Master. Four years later, Corey joined the winemaking team at Rubicon Estate (formerly Niebaum-Coppola Estate Winery), where he met Claudia, who was then Chateau Director.

Claudia, whose family created the world-renowned Auberge du Soleil in Rutherford, as well as her sister Bettina's highly acclaimed Angele Restaurant in Napa, acquired a passion for wine and haute cuisine at an early age. Her European background and appreciation for how wine and food should complement one another has greatly influenced the style of wines we produce.

Over the course of nearly two decades, Corey has experimented with farming methods, fermentation techniques and barrel selections. Each vintage is an opportunity to glean new insights into this craft. The result of all these experiences is that we've learned where the best fruit grows and have developed the artistry to bottle some pretty remarkable Cabernet Sauvignon.
