Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Our 2008 Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay displays fruit-forward citrus aromas, accented by hints of mineral and brown spice. On the palate, it is richly textured with honey, fig, stone fruit, spice and minerals.

Critical Acclaim

"Very rich, reflecting 100% barrel fermentation in partial new oak and 100% malolactic fermentation. Under the creamy lees and buttered toast are scads of pineapples, pears and papayas. The grapes come from the Nielson Vineyard."

Ubiquitous as Chardonnays may seem, this particular Byron Chard. stands out on its own. Not in the least bit overly acidic or bitter, it has a toasty, buttery taste with subtle hints of citrus, cream, and minerals as its being enjoyed. I paired this wine with a mayo and celery based chicken salad, sour cream and cheddar noodles, and some creamy havarti cheese w/ caraway. Definitely a smooth, rich, and pleasant Chardonnay that I'll buy again.

Terrific Chardonnay. I found it crisp with a warm feeling. I have much to learn about wine tasting, but I was able to experience distinct flavors.
