The wine of Château de Gueyze comes from gravelly plots on the crest of the hill, planted mainly with Carbernet, with some Merlot. The exceptional type of soil has left its imprint of a firm backbone with powerful tannins giving an extremly elegant wine. It is aged for many months in new oak barrels, making it ideal for laying down 10 or even 15 years.

The Cooperative of Buzet was formed in 1953, and the region gained AOC status in 1973. They have their own cooperage, and this attention to detail gives great quality at very petite prices--like quality petit Chateaux of Bordeaux, but at a fraction of the cost. They have about 4,250 acres of vines, and 279 growers. Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon are the main grapes.
