Somm Note

Winemaker Notes

The 2012 Buccella Cabernet Sauvignon is a stunning balance between power and finesse. The wine is a lush, layered example of the best Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon can offer. Aromas of blackberry, cassis, and blueberry mingle with notes of molasses, bay, pastry crust, and graphite. The palate showcases a velvet texture, with supple tannins wrapped around flavors of black current, dark chocolate flavors, and a rich finish of incredible length.

What a glorious statement for Cabernet Sauvignon, Buccella’s 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine has an opaque purple color, a beautiful nose of forest floor, white flowers, blueberry and black raspberry, along with a telltale cassis and subtle background oak. Full-bodied, rich and multi-dimensional, this is fabulous 2012 that’s just coming into its own. Look for this wine to drink well young, as it already is, and evolve for 20-25 years.

High-toned aromas of ripe berries, plums and flowers suggests a fruit-forward style, but this shows design and finesse. Full body, firm and silky tannins and a long and intense finish. Flamboyant and sexy with form. Drink or hold.

Buccella, California

Buccella: Latin for "mouthful." Its name evokes the wine's big, bold concentrated layers that wrap a mouth with luxury. The story of Buccella began over a beautiful bottle of 1990 Gaja. It was William and Alicia Deem's first date. They were two individuals with distinct dreams, until their common love of wine started them on a wonderful journey together. Their passion drove them to begin the pursuit of a shared dream in 2002 – quite simply –to make the best wine they could. The Deems savor wine for its ability to make connections, create memories, and nourish the true enjoyment of life. Buccella handcrafts limited production Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

One of the most prestigious wines of the world capable of great power and grace, Napa Valley Cabernet is a leading force in the world of fine, famous, collectible red wine. Today the Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other. But it wasn’t until the 1970s that this marriage came to light; sudden international recognition rained upon Napa with the victory of the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1976 Judgement of Paris.

Cabernet Sauvignon undoubtedly dominates Napa Valley today, covering half of the land under vine, commanding the highest prices per ton and earning the most critical acclaim. Cabernet Sauvignon’s structure, acidity, capacity to thrive in multiple environs and ability to express nuances of vintage make it perfect for Napa Valley where incredible soil and geographical diversity are found and the climate is perfect for grape growing. Within the Napa Valley lie many smaller sub-AVAs that express specific characteristics based on situation, slope and soil—as a perfect example, Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
