Winemaker Notes

This wine is deep purple to red in color. The aroma is complex with ripe blackberry and raspberry fruits, subtle mint and eucalypt with underlying liquorice, vanilla and spice nuances. The palate is multi-layered, with beautiful balance between sweet ripe fruit, acidity and fine tannins, It's generosity of flavour, velvet mouth feel and full yet subtle tannins gives it an approachability, but has the potential longevity of greater than 10 years.

The Brothers in Arms Shiraz is 100% Shiraz from the Metala Vineyard in Langhorne Creek. The fruit was harvested from 10 different blocks of vines that have an average age of 25 years. The winemaker, David Freschi employs a minimalist winemaking approach and uses a combination of French and American Oak, half of which is new wood. The wine is aged for 16 months in barriques and aged in bottle for one year before release.

Brothers in Arms No. 6, Australia
The family of brothers Guy and Tom Adams have farmed the famed Metala property situated on the floodplains of Langhorne Creek, for over 100 years. The original vineyard was planted back in 1891, making it one of the oldest in the region. These vines, still productive today, are producing some of the most sought after fruit grown in South Australia. The vineyard has grown considerably to its current size over the intervening period, with vines aged anywhere from current planting’s to 110 years. One thing that hasn’t changed in all this time is the fruit from Metala. It is still of outstanding quality, and is still keenly sought after by wineries both large and small.

After many years of watching their fruit leave the vineyard on the back of a truck, largely to disappear into a large winery's mulit-regional blend, Guy and Tom felt the time was right to take the next step and leave a lasting legacy for the next generation. Brothers In Arms was born. Their first release, a 1998 Shiraz, certainly vindicated their decision, being an outstanding wine and selling out in the blink of an eye.

There is certainly an exciting future ahead for Brothers In Arms, with so many blocks of outstanding fruit to select from. After many years of planning, their winery on the family property has become a reality.
