Winemaker Notes

In Roman mythology, Janus is the God representing balance for new beginnings and endings, the future and the past, and the connecting doorways. Janus is Brooks' flagship wube. It possesses the richest, most vibrant and intense blend that we produce. This wine is the ultimate expression of Pinot Noir!

This wine offers notes of root beer, bacon, blackberry, dark fruits, smoked meat, rose petal, plum and damson cherry. This wine has such a beautiful perfume! Clove and Chinese five spice over a lush mouthfeel of ripe cherry, red plum and strawberry. The Janus is rich and full bodied, fruit forward with round velvety plushness and a finish of bright acidity and ripe red fruits. This is a hedonistic pleasure and absolutely a pleasure to drink.

This could be a main course wine with duck and cherries, pork loin or porchetta. Lamb ribs or a fat piece of fillet covered in a buttery mushroom cream sauce would be ethereal!

Light and sleek, with black tea notes weaving through the cherry and strawberry flavors, lingering with transparency on an expressive finish.

Home of some of the planet’s most amazingly elegant and expressive Pinot noir, the Willamette Valley is a pastoral, mixed landscape of green, bucolic rolling hills, dramatic forestlands and small, independent, friendly wine growers. As a leader in environmental stewardship, the valley has some of the nation’s most protective land use policies, with two-thirds of its vineyards farmed sustainably and over half, organically. While the valley claims a cool, continental climate, and is heavily influenced by the cold, moist winds of the Pacific Ocean, its warm and dry summers allow for the steady, even ripening of Pinot noir.

The potential of Willamette Valley Pinot noir continues to attract the investment of serious growers and winemakers both locally and from abroad, as naturally the finished wines bring accolades from professionals and enthusiasts. With a range of styles from delicate dried cherry, raspberry and hibiscus to stronger notes of truffle, mocha, plum and spice, a fine Willamette Valley Pinot noir is a perfect expression of both character and grace.
