Winemaker's Notes

The 2011 Machado Pinot Noir has a nose of blackberry, red-flesh plums and balsamic. The palate shows flaovrs of mission figs, black tea and mocha, with a powerful and brooding texture.

Critical Acclaim

"From deep clay and sandy soils planted completely by the Brewer-Clifton team and located just behind the Kessler-Hawk vineyard, the 2011 Pinot Noir Machado dishes out gorgeous red fruits, spice and crushed flower-like qualities that flow to a structured, ripe and yet elegant Pinot that needs bottle time to round into form. Give it another 2-3 years and enjoy through 2026. Drink 2015-2026."
94 Points

"Brilliant ruby-red. Assertively perfumed black raspberry and cherry-cola aromas accented by notes of potpourri and star anise. Broad and rich but with impressive lift and nerve to its red fruit liqueur flavors. Finishes silky and extremely long, with sneaky, fine-grained tannins and a hint of candied flowers."
94 Points

"The 2011 Pinot Noir Machado is deep, powerful and intense. Dark cherries, flowers, menthol and spices fill out on a broad-shouldered frame as the wine opens up in the glass. A bright, beautifully focused, structured Pinot, the 2011 Machado is firing on all cylinders today. These clay rich soils give the wine much of its size and shape."
