Winemaker's Notes:

A wine of outstanding quality and character. Deep purple, black hues and dark edges indicative of good extraction and ripeness. The aromas are complex and continually evolve in the glass. Sweet black fruit (dark cherries, plums and hints of cassis), are interwoven with subtle oak aromas of vanilla, toffee and treacle. Prodigiously ripe fruit dominate the palate. A firm tannin structure is balanced with delicious sweetness.

"Dark fruits, licorice and pepper on the nose. Fairly dense and nicely pliant but brooding, with medicinal flavors of black fruits and licorice. The substantial tannins are sweet, though. I'd give this another year in the bottle to soften."

Additional wines from Brampton:

About Brampton:

Brampton is Rustenberg's second label, providing a range of mouthfilling, soft and easily accessible wines. Grapes are selected from specific vineyards on the Simons berg and Helderberg slopes. Each vineyard block is vinified separately to bring out its full po-tential, then blended for a supple, fruit-driven style.

There are two dry but fruit-packed whites: a fresh, floral Sauvignon Blanc and an unoaked Chardonnay. The intense, marmalade-rich Chardonnay bouquet follows through to citrus flavors on the palate, combined with slight creaminess for added complexity. Zesty lime and citrus characterize the Sauvignon Blanc, balanced by natural acidity.

The Brampton red varies from a Cabernet to a Cabernet/Merlot blend, depending on vintage. Emphasis is on a rich, rewarding wine, with intense fruit and friendly oak tannins providing depth and power.

Nooitgedacht, where Brampton wines originate, is situated between 350-450m above sea level, where vines on the Helderberg ridges are cooled by sea breezes. Emphasis is on Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and some Pinot Noir. The label name derives from the farm's champion Jersey bull, Brampton Beacon Bloomer. And Simon Barlow is bullish about the future of Brampton wines.
