Fresh and linear, this opens with fragrant purple flower, red berry and new leather scents. The firm, youthfully austere palate is loaded with finesse, offering crunchy red cherry, fresh strawberry and licorice notes with taut, fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity. Give it time to unwind and fully develop. Drink 2019–2028.

Tight fruit-skin tannins lend a raspy grip to this wine’s spiced cherry flavors. Its rose-hued color and floral scents lend delicacy, while notes of savory herbs and black olives evoke the Tuscan slopes on which the sangiovese, canaiolo and mammolo vines grow. It gains momentum, picking up notes of spice and licorice on the way to a long, balanced finish.

James Suckling
A round and friendly red with ripe berry and chocolate aromas and flavors. Medium body, round tannins and a fruity finish.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Boscarelli's 2013 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano opens to a dark ruby color with garnet highlights. The wine is based on Sangiovese but has smaller parts Canaiolo and Colorino in the blend. The Colorino gives the wine its attractive color and the Canaiolo provides some of the tannic power. Like Sangiovese, this Tuscan grape needs to be fully ripe in order to iron out any residual astringency. This is not always easy in a cool vintage like 2013. The bouquet here offers wild berry aromas with grilled herb and licorice.

Legendary in Italy for its Renaissance art and striking landscape, Tuscany is also home to many of the country’s best red wines. Sangiovese reigns supreme here, as either the single varietal, or a dominant player, in almost all of Tuscany’s best.
A remarkable Chianti, named for its region of origin, will have a bright acidity, supple tannins and plenty of cherry fruit character. From the hills and valleys surrounding the medieval village of Montalcino, come the distinguished and age-worthy wines based on Brunello (Sangiovese). Earning global acclaim since the 1970s, the Tuscan Blends are composed solely of international grape varieties or a mix of international and Sangiovese. The wine called Vine Nobile di Montepulciano, composed of Prognolo Gentile (Sangiovese) and is recognized both for finesse and power.
