Winemaker Notes

Dark ruby red color. Nose is tertiary and full, refined and delightful, with noble return sensations. Round, full-bodied and with extraordinary structure. Suite of complex and silky tannins, very well-balanced and surprisingly velvety.

Blend: 40% Sangiovese, 20% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Syrah

Professional Ratings

  • 94
Aromas of ripe bluish-black fruit, crushed mint, iris and dark cooking spices lead the nose on this savory blend of 60% Sangiovese, 20% Syrah and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. The firm palate doles out fleshy black cherries, ripe blackberries, cinnamon, vanilla, mocha and tobacco. Velvety tannins support the delicious, juicy fruit flavors. Drink through 2019.
  • 92
A chewy and rich wine with blueberry and chocolate, hints of walnuts. Full body, soft tannins and a long and flavorful finish. Better in 2016.
  • 90
Dark, smooth and dense with ripe plum, black raspberry and spice; lush, seamless and balanced with depth and juicy style.

Borgo Scopeto is an old and well-established estate producer of Chianti Classico.

It is a true borgo - a hamlet with its own church, post office, town center, and residences. Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini owns Borgo Scopeto, along with Altesino, Caparzo, and Doga delle Clavule, and she and winemaker Massimo Bracalente are responsible for all aspects of the production of Borgo Scopeto wines. The first bottle of Chianti Classico with the Borgo Scopeto label dates back to 1990.

Legendary in Italy for its Renaissance art and striking landscape, Tuscany is also home to many of the country’s best red wines. Sangiovese reigns supreme here, as either the single varietal, or a dominant player, in almost all of Tuscany’s best.

A remarkable Chianti, named for its region of origin, will have a bright acidity, supple tannins and plenty of cherry fruit character. From the hills and valleys surrounding the medieval village of Montalcino, come the distinguished and age-worthy wines based on Brunello (Sangiovese). Earning global acclaim since the 1970s, the Tuscan Blends are composed solely of international grape varieties or a mix of international and Sangiovese. The wine called Vine Nobile di Montepulciano, composed of Prognolo Gentile (Sangiovese) and is recognized both for finesse and power.
