Bonterra Organically Grown Syrah 2007
Syrah/Shiraz from Central Coast, California
Our Syrah vineyards, including the newer biodynamically-farmed Butler Ranch, which ranges upwards to 1,600 feet above sea level, are quite young, just teasing their prime growing years. You can see youth well-served in the wine's brilliant crimson color and intense, heady aromas of black cherry and blackberries before giving way to bitter-sweet, vanilla chocolate. The tannins are velvety smooth and supple. The oak is wonderfully integrated, with complementary flavors of white pepper and toasty oak spice. This is a distinctive Bonterra Syrah, more fruit-forward than previous vintages, more distinctive and unique. It's a wine I believe you'll truly enjoy!
At Bonterra, we passionately believe that organic grapes make better wine. Bonterra has been producing wine from 100% organically-grown grapes since 1993. All of our grapes are grown using certied organic practices, such as composting, cover crops, and biodiversity. these organic practices give us grapes that oer a quality of fruit and vibrancy of taste that allow us to create wines that express the purity and intensity of each varietal's unique character. In every sip of Bonterra, you can taste our natural commitment to producing wines of great taste and excitement, which is why we believe they are among the very best wines you'll experience.
Wine Enthusiast - "A worthy followup to the wonderful 2006. Shows equal concentration of blackberry, blueberry and licorice flavors, with a bacon and pepper savoriness that tantalizes. The structure is fine and firm, the finish dry and spicy. Drink now for sheer deliciousness.

About Central CoastView a map of Central Coast wineries
The largest of California's wine growing regions, the Central Coast produces the majority of California's wine. The district sprawls out, covering most of the vineyard land between San Francisco and Santa Barbara. Smaller sub-AVAs of the Central Coast include Monterey Bay, Paso Robles, Santa Ynez Valley, Santa Maria Valley, Santa Cruz Mountains and many others.
Notable FactsGrape varieties range from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay to Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel. Some Central Coast wine is generic, bulk wine that contributes to the high production numbers of the area. But many winemakers and wineries, particular in some of the smaller AVAs, are small production artisans, creating unique and high-quality wine. The great thing about the Central Coast is its diversity - you're able to find a number of grape varieties and styles at a number of different price points.
About CaliforniaIt's not rare to see a wine's country of origin listed as "California." A country into itself in the wine world, California makes enough varieties and styles to match many European wine countries. It produces a diverse range of wines that span the quality spectrum.
The most famous of the California wine regions is Napa Valley, and these wines are certainly outstanding – but it's not as broad and diverse as its larger neighbor, Sonoma County. Down south, Santa Barbara's Santa Maria Valley is well-known for its Rhône blends, as well as cool-climate varieties like Pinot and Chardonnay. The Central Coast, the largest California AVA, has many different microclimates that lead to a wide range of wines with many sub-AVAs.

I liked this wine so much, I opened the second bottle after a few days. I wish I would have saved it because I could really go for one now! Very balanced and Earthy.26/14/2011Fonz note = 2/5 Not good - not bad, rustic (like a so-so Côte du Rhone). Great price.24/15/2011rsheng - San Francisco, CA44/7/2011
