You are in for a treat with this new vin de paille style dessert wine. Quite juicy, full of apple, pear and quince fruit aligned with apricots, hazelnuts and a hint of lavender honeycomb.
2008 brought unseasonable dryness to the Beeswax Vineyard in Arroyo Seco, with low humidity and few rain showers, providing deeply concentrated and flavorful grenache blanc and roussanne for a vin de paille style dessert wine. Hand picked and dried on vineyard mats for three weeks, the fruit was gently foot stomped at the winery to release the sugar and flavors from the desiccated grapes.
Blend: 51% Grenache Blanc, 49% Roussanne
International Wine Cellar - "Yellow-gold. Ripe and subtly smoky on the nose, which displays pit fruit nectar and poire William scents complicated by notes of marzipan and lemon thyme. Sweet and palate-coating but surprisingly light on its feet, offering lush, honeyed orchard and pit fruit flavors and gentle back-end bite. Finishes with sappy cling and an echo of candied pear."

Founded by Randall Grahm in the bucolic hamlet of Bonny Doon, California, in 1983, we’re known for strikingly original wines made from lesser-known (though no less noble) grape varieties, the vinous Ugly Ducklings. Bonny Doon Vineyard made its mark with pioneering work with Rhône varieties, innovative production techniques, and imaginative marketing that has, truth be told, sometimes been too clever by half. Since the adoption of biodynamic farming practices in 2004 and the radical slimming down of product portfolio and case production in 2006 (with a concomitant greater degree of focus and attention to detail), the wines evince a more complex expression of varietal character, a more noticeable sense of organization, and a greater degree of life-force.

The largest of California's wine growing regions, the Central Coast produces the majority of California's wine. The district sprawls out, covering most of the vineyard land between San Francisco and Santa Barbara. Smaller sub-AVAs of the Central Coast include Monterey Bay, Paso Robles, Santa Ynez Valley, Santa Maria Valley, Santa Cruz Mountains and many others.
Notable FactsGrape varieties range from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay to Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel. Some Central Coast wine is generic, bulk wine that contributes to the high production numbers of the area. But many winemakers and wineries, particular in some of the smaller AVAs, are small production artisans, creating unique and high-quality wine. The great thing about the Central Coast is its diversity - you're able to find a number of grape varieties and styles at a number of different price points.

The Central Coast, the largest California AVA, has many different microclimates that lead to a wide range of wines with many sub-AVAs.
