Bogle Petite Sirah 2012
Petite Sirah from California
Showcasing the varietal's trademark characteristics, the wine is impressively inky, dark and luscious in the glass. Supple fruits, including wild blackberry and Oregon blueberry, are distinct both in the aromatics and on first sip. Concentrated and rich, savory notes of toasty oak combine with mocha and hints of salted caramel. The finish, firm and full bodied, lingers and lasts as only Petite Sirah can.
Try this unique wine with rich meat dishes of lamb, pork or game and their hearty sauces.
Wine & Spirits - "It's a spicy, mouthfilling red with a firm undercurrent of structure its bold flavors of mulberry and anise primed to provide a hearty accompaniment to a weeeknight steak au poivre."
Although the Bogle family has been farming since the 1800's, it wasn't until 1968 that the father and son team of Warren and Chris Bogle planted their first 20 acres of wine grapes in Clarksburg, California. Clarksburg is a small farming community nestled in the Sacramento Delta. Today Bogle Vineyards farms over 1,000 acres of wine grapes in the Delta region. While the winery was established ten years after the first grapes were planted, it has grown tremendously along with the vineyards. Bogle Winery is currently producing 100,000 cases of wine. Winemaker Christopher Smith joined the winery in 1992. He sources fruit from some of the best vineyards throughout the State of California and blends that fruit with the best grapes from our Estate Vineyards in Clarksburg. View all Bogle Vineyards Wines
About Other CaliforniaView a map of Other California wineries
California has nearly 100 American Viticulture Areas (AVAs) and accounts for almost 90% of wine production in the United States. In our section of Other California, we include wines from smaller AVAs as well as wines from the California AVA. Here are a few smaller AVAs you may see on the label:
Livermore Valley AVA, located right outside of San Francisco and home to wineries such as Wente.
Lodi County AVA, an AVA further east of San Francisco and known for its excellent, old-vine Zinfandels.
San Francisco Bay AVA, a sprawling AVA that covers Contra Costa, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties, to name a few. Wine that holds only the California AVA is typically a wine that includes grapes from a number of different AVAs, which leads to the general labeling of the wine as California. This does not denote the quality of the wine, only the diversity of where the grapes originate.
About CaliforniaIt's not rare to see a wine's country of origin listed as "California." A country into itself in the wine world, California makes enough varieties and styles to match many European wine countries. It produces a diverse range of wines that span the quality spectrum.
The most famous of the California wine regions is Napa Valley, and these wines are certainly outstanding – but it's not as broad and diverse as its larger neighbor, Sonoma County. Down south, Santa Barbara's Santa Maria Valley is well-known for its Rhône blends, as well as cool-climate varieties like Pinot and Chardonnay. The Central Coast, the largest California AVA, has many different microclimates that lead to a wide range of wines with many sub-AVAs.

This is our "every day" wine. It has a depth of flavor that most wines in this price range lack.Whiskystone - Newburyport, MA44/27/2015Warmth, spice, lovely berry flavours and great length. Really cannot ask for more at the price and a great partner to steak, game and hearty stews. A go to wine.Shanel45 - Houston, TX54/9/2015rfiresto - Monmouth, OR43/19/2015

For a sirah, this has a nice depth of flavor, very smooth and went well with our roast and veggies.Wilfred Wong (of Wine.com) - San Francisco, CA37/17/2014

For decades, the Bogle Petite Sirah has been one of America's most reliable wines; long and lust, but never too tannic or rough. Has fine grapeiness from start to finish. The 2012, product of an excellent North Coast vintage is a top effort from the winery.

Alcohol By Volume GuideMost wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.
