Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

100% old vine Garnacha, (70-100 years) sourced from the villages of Acered, Alarba and Castejón de Alarba from mountainside slate vineyards 3000 feet high. These slate vineyards give the wine a pronounced minerality and structure. Yields were limited to a maximum of 1 ton per acre.

Critical Acclaim

"The unoaked 2008 Las Pizarras del Jalon is 100% old-vine Garnacha sourced from vines ranging in age from 70-100 years. Purple-colored, it gives up a nose of earth, mineral, Asian spices, lavender and black cherry that jumps from the glass. With excellent depth and grip, gobs of fruit, and impeccable balance, it will continue to evolve for 1-2 years and offer prime drinking from 2011 to 2016.

Bodegas y Vinedos del Jalon’s current portfolio is first class from top to bottom. "
