Very dark purple with lots of black hues. Big sweet nose (some may call it candified) of dark plums, black cherries, sweet smoky oak, tobacco, and funky tree bark. Forward gush of dark fruit that also has some helpful tangy red currants along with tobacco, smoke, and earth. Medium-low acid, soft tannins.
"The 2008 Volver is also 100% Tempranillo sourced from 50+-year-old vines and aged for 14 months in new French oak. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it showcases aromas of pain grille, earth notes, spice box, and fragrant blue and black fruits. Supple-textured, super-ripe and concentrated, on the palate it is mouth-filling, savory, and structured enough to evolve for 2-3 years. It can be enjoyed now and over the next 8-10 years. It is a great value that over-delivers in a big way."
The Wine Advocate
Dark inky garnet black with purple edges and nice legs. A fresh and pleasant fruit explosion on the nose, dark berries, even a touch of raspberry, and a little green herb. On the tongue, medium bodied, quite light and subdued at first, despite the dark color and rich nose, but opens up rapidly. The fruit is delicious, but not at all overpowering, with blackberry which is matched by nice tannins and moderate, yet juicy balanced acid, with a touch of coffee/chocolate tofee. Not warm or hot at all, very refreshing. Hits all the bells, even throwing in a little vanilla, white pepper and leather tones. Medium-long finish is respectable for this price. Very drinkable and I think it will evolve quite nicely for a while, but is delicious and very drinkable now. Love it. Will definitely buy more at this price. Excellent cellar defender.
I enjoyed this wine although I found it a bit heavier than California Tempranillos. I compare this more to a Syrah. But, all in all, a good wine. I ended up purchasing more.
