Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

After the first four grape harvests from 1997 to 2000, we realized that we would have to preserve, extract and protect everything that would convert Pintia into an elegant wine within the austerity of the region - the delicate tannins embraced by the aroma of fresh fruit whilst avoiding overripeness and liquorice aromas. This is Pintia's defining philosophy.

Critical Acclaim

"The 2007 Pintia was sourced from 50% ungrafted Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo) vines and aged in 100% new French and American oak. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it shows off a compelling bouquet of wood smoke, scorched earth, mineral, incense, blackberry, and licorice. Already complex on the palate, this full-bodied offering is dense, succulent, and structured. Give this lengthy Toro another 5-7 years of cellaring and drink it from 2016 to 2032, if not longer. 93+ "

"Bright violet. Cassis, blueberry, cherry-cola and coffee on the expressive nose. Tightly wound and firmly built but in no way hard, with terrific lift to the dark berry preserve, chocolate, mineral and vanilla flavors. Really stains the palate on the finish and shows a lot of sexy fruit right now, but give this at least five years in the cellar."
