A gorgeous cherry red color with violet along the rim. A broad and complex nose with notes of candied black fruits (mulberry, blackberry and blackcurrants). It has an oaky presence, both noble and elegant. The feel in the mouth is opulent and accompanied by a structured and elegant aftertaste.

Bodegas Cepa 21 is the new ambitious project headed by the Moro family, the owners of Bodegas Emilio Moro, one of the most emblematic wineries in the Ribera del Duero. The aim of this project has been to build a modern, functional, minimalist new winery drawing on the savoir faire acquired over the years by several generations of the Moro family in the making of modern-style wines.
The Moro brothers, José and Javier, wanted to bring some of their best friends into the project and get them to experience some of the thrills and excitement of being part of the world of wine.

Notable FactsThe wines of Ribera del Duero are mainly red – white wines here are not exported or revered. The reds come primarily from a variation of Tempranillo, called Tinto Fino or Tinto del Pais in this region. Garnacha and Cabernet Sauvignon are also used, but not so often. The best wines of the area are refreshing yet sturdy and complex, with an ability to age and mature gracefully.
The most popular red varieties of Spain include Tempranillo and Garnacha (Grenache). Whites don't garner quite as much recognition, but there are some regional varieties not to be missed, like Albarino and Verdejo. The popular red regions of Spain include Rioja, known for its outstanding wines of the Tempranillo grape; Ribera del Duero, producing high quality reds from Tempranillo and Garnacha; Galacia, with the sub-region of Rias Baixas, home to the deliciously crisp and floral Albarino grape; and Priorat, a region increasing in popularity with its high-quality cult reds. Other regions of note are Rueda, growing the Verdejo grape, La Mancha, a wide desert region, covered in the most planted white variety in the world, Airen, and Jumilla, making wines based on Monastrell (Mourvedre).
Spain's wine laws are based on the Denominacion de Origen (DO) classification system, devised in the 1930's. A four tiered system, the most basic level is Vina de Mesa (table wine) followed by Vino de la Tierra (country wine), DO and at the top DOC. Currently, only Rioja and Priorat have DOC status, while over 65 DO's scatter the country.
Most DO regions are classified and regulated by how long they age the wines. On a red wine label, one may find the terms Crianza, Reserva or Gran Reserva, denoting the wine's barrel and bottle time. Crianza is usually two years between barrel and bottle (the time in each depends on the DO and/or the winemaker), Reserva up to 4 years and Gran Reserva 5 – 6 years. Classifications of each region and wine are controlled by the region's Consejo Regulador.

2 ratings, 2 with reviews43/19/2011This is a really nice tempranillo, quite dry with a beautiful deep purple color that sits heavily in the glass. The nose presents a scent of leather with a hint of chocolate and berry. The taste is somewhat fruity, with hints of cherry and cassis, but still quite dry with a pleasant finish. I had this wine tonight with leftover corned beef and cabbage from St. Patrick's Day, so at the very least you can call it versatile, but I think it would go quite well with a rare grilled steak with some grilled veggies and olive oil as well. Of course it's not after dinner and I'm quite enjoying my final glass all by itself.flacrabb - Saint Petersburg, FL51/31/2011The Bodegas Cepa 21 blew me away last night. I was searching my collection for the right red to accompany a veggie lasagna. I took a chance on this wine and was rewarded with an almost unbelievable flavor experience. This wine stood up to the tomato and garlic in the lasagna and complimented every bite with ripe fruit flavors and a subtle hint of licorice. Even my wife, the red wine hater, loved it. The bottle disappeared quickly and enjoyably. This wine will go well with many Italian and Spanish dishes. I am ordering more, as it was as fine a wine as I have tried in over a year.
