Smooth & Supple

Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.

Winemaker's Notes

The grapes come from old vines vineyards, 60-80 years-old, with yields of 2T/Ha and located high on the hillsides, 3,000 ft above sea level, around Calatayud. The vineyards are planted in principally decomposed slate and gravely clay soils. Even though there is very little rainfall in the region (around 350ml per year), the clay is at depth and allows for the vines to obtain moisture and be dry grown.

Critical Acclaim

"Bright purple. Ripe dark berries and cracked pepper on the nose. Smooth and broad on entry, then tighter in the mid-palate, offering tangy blackberry and bitter cherry flavors and a hint of licorice. Sweeter on the finish, with the cherry and licorice notes echoing. This is an amazing value."

The 2012 wine is much softer and less flavorful that the 2011 with was bold and full of flavor.

Learn About Bodegas Breca

Jorge Ordonez and his associates founded Bodegas Breca in 2005. The winery is located in the town of Mundobriga, which was the ancient Celt-Iberian city that gave birth to the modern village of Munebrega in Aragon. The winery is located on the outskirts of the village and the vineyards are nestled in the high altitude valleys between the Sierra de Pardos and the Sierra de Pena...

Popular in Spain (called Garnacha), Australia and the southern Rhone region of France, Grenache is the primary grape in regions such as Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Tavel, and Priorat. It's often tamed by less fleshy, more structured grapes like Syrah...
