Winemaker's Notes

The Honoro Vera Garnacha is a ripe cherry color. It has an intense nose with dominating notes of red ripe fruits, such as raspberry and red currant, balsamic sensations and mineral aromas. It is a fruity wine, very fresh and easy to drink.

For under 10 bucks? Are you kidding me? I love this wine. It's big and lucious. The first sniff reminds me of a pittsburg rare filet among the dark fruits. And I can taste something like a meat rub. may sound strange, but it is wonderful.

Wow. Deep rich plum, extra dark chocolate, dark boysenberry, lush mouthfeel, creamy finish. I bet this would be amazing with a flourless chocolate cake. Rich, dessert like, and superb. Not "sweet" typically but rounded and developed. This is a real value!

I was looking forward to liking this wine, good reviews, but literally almost dumped the bottle. I guess it's just a difference of taste- worst wine I've had in a long time.

Learn About Bodegas Ateca

Bodegas Ateca is a joint project between the Gil winery family and the well-known importer, Jorge Ordonez. The bodegas is located in the Calatayud region of northeastern Spain. The majority of the vineyards are grown in highly permeable and healthy soils with a high amount of limestone. The soils are rocky, loose and low in nutrients. The climate in this region varies vastly from day to night, allowing for more balance between acidity and alcohol.

The main varietal here is Garnacha grown from old-vines up to 80-100 years old.

The most popular red varieties of Spain include Tempranillo and Garnacha (Grenache). Whites don't garner quite as much recognition, but there are some regional varieties not to be missed, like Albarino...
