Alcohol By Volume: 14.0%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

This peculiar soil and climate of Campo de Borja give this wine a special character. The grapes come from the best hillside vineyards planted with the oldest Garnacha vines.

Critical Acclaim

"The 2008 Granate is old vine Garnacha but was aged for 10 months in new French oak. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it delivers an alluring nose of smoke, Asian spices, lavender, and black cherry. This leads to a round, opulent, concentrated Garnacha that is all about pleasure. Drink this outstanding value over the next 6 years."
90 Points

"Inky ruby. Intense, floral-accented aromas of redcurrant, raspberry and Asian spices; smells like pinot to me. Bright, sharply focused red fruit flavors stain the palate, lifted by a spicy note. Very fresh (this has a pH of 3.4), with very good finishing clarity and length. These vines sit at 650 to 700 meters altitude, which no doubt contributes to the fruit's brightness."
