Light & Fruity

Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.

Smooth & Supple

Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.

Earthy & Spicy

Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.

Big & Bold

Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.

Winemaker's Notes

This wine is made from vines that have an average age of over 50 years, a fact that contributes to it's fantastic concentration. 100% Tina del Toro, the wine is aged in new French 70% and American 30% oak barrel for 10 months. Almost black in color to the eye, the nose reveals toastie oak character, black fruits, leather and a heady mix of tobacco and liquorish. In the mouth it is hugely rich, smooth and sweet.

Critical Acclaim

"A glass-coating opaque purple in color, it offers up a fragrant bouquet of earth notes, mineral, spice box, and blackberry. This leads to a dense, ripe, powerful wine which manages to keep its tannins under control. Give it another 2-3 years in the cellar and drink it through 2020. "

Learn About Bodegas Abanico

The Vinaguarena winery, founded in 1999, enjoys a privileged location in the valley of the river Guarena, a tributary fo the Duero river. The vineyards are spread over 30 hectares and consist only of the Tinta de Toro Variety. The vines are between 5 and 31 years old and the winery selects from even older vines under contract.

The management team is looking to create a wine with expression of variety, essence of place, intensity of aroma, clean fruit, and sweet tannins.
