The 2010 Arise exudes perfumes of cherry, blackberry, tobacco, and vanilla. Upon entry, the soft mouthfeel reveals flavors of black cherry, truffle, and subtle black olive which unfold into a succulent finish. The 2010 Napa Valley grape growing season presented fickle weather conditions due to the relatively cool spring coupled with unexpected heat spikes in late summer. The outcome was a lower-yielding harvest that produced supple wines with European-style texture and great complexity.
Blend: 61% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Cabernet Franc
"Dark red with ruby highlights. Sexy aromas of black raspberry, dark chocolate, licorice, minerals and flowers. Sappy and densely packed, with crushed raspberry, kirsch and licorice flavors accented by distinctly cool pepper and herb notes. There's explosive black cherry fruit here but this sharply delineated, vibrant wine is extremely young and clenched today. The firm tannins are more than supported by strong fruit. Finishes with terrific energy and sneaky length."

Purchased by entrepreneur Michael Polenske in 2003, Blackbird Vineyards is now an ultra premium label in its own right. (Fittingly, 'Merlot' is French patois for 'Little Blackbird.')
