Winemaker's Notes

This wine is more highly structured than the 1997 Flat Block Reserve, with layers of flavor which will unfold over time. It is beautifully balanced with a specificity of aroma and flavor that goes beyond Pinot noir to the place it is grown, the Southeast Block at Bethel Heights Vineyard. Both of our 97 Reserve Pinots have less weight and concentration, but more elegance and finesse, than any of our 98 Pinots in our cellar. As such, they represent the Bethel Heights house style at its best.

Planted between 1977 and 1979, Bethel Heights was one of the first vineyards in the Eola Hills, a chain of hills in the center of Oregon's Willamette Valley. The estate winery was established in 1984 and currently produces 10,000 cases of wine annually, most of which still comes from the 50 acre estate vineyard. Bethel Heights specializes in Pinot Noir, but also produces Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc.
