Winemaker's Notes

Benziger Cabernet Sauvignon is a classically structured, full-bodied wine with a complete range of flavors, firm tannic foundation and an acid balance which showcases the varietal character. The color is deep red-purple and the aromas present blackberry, plum, leather and smoked oak fragrances. Flavors are of ripe berries, deeply toasted oak and spice completed by a lengthy finish.

I tasted 5 other domestic Cabs from 2005 and found this to be the best by far. Very balanced and not jammy like the others.

Perhaps that title is due to its ability to grow worldwide in a number of climates, or to the fact that it produces wine with such character yet such diversity. Either way, this grape is responsible, as a whole or a partner, for some of the greatest wines in the world. In Bordeaux,...
