Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

The red is 80% Mencía, 10% Bastardo, and 10% Arauxa (Tempranillo). The wine is fermented and raised in tank, aging for 4 months before bottling. Only 500 cases are produced annually. This is an unoaked version of Mencia and is very elegant and fresh. Drink within the next 3-5 years.

Critical Acclaim

"Vivid ruby. Intense strawberry and redcurrant aromas complicated by suggestions of rose, anise and cracked pepper. Spicy and precise, with bright red fruit flavors perked up by a hint of allspice. The tangy finish features very good clarity and length."
