About Benaza:
Once sold mainly for bulk production, wines from Galicia are now playing a game of catchup
with other regions in Spain. With multiple single estates springing up, there are going to be many
more fantastic wines coming out of this north-western area bordering Portugal. Most people are already
familiar with Albariño from Rias Baix, but there are several other DO’s which are less known but ready
to breakthrough: Ribiero, Ribeira Sacra, Valdeorras and of course Monterrei. Godello (aka Verdelho
and Gouveio) is a grape with the widest planting in Monterrei and Valdeorras where it yields crisp white
wine of good character. Alvaro Bueno is a talented winemaker producing wines from Monterrei of great
quality and value! |
