Beaulieu Vineyard Signet Collection Syrah 1996

The fine dark scarlet ruby color suggests that this vintage's Syrah means business! Strong blackberry and dark plum aromas are evident, as well as more subtle hints of anise or herbs. Medium-full bodied, there is a fine rich viscosity and texture balanced by supple but firm tannins. The flavors combine Rhone-like gamey, tar and roasted raspberry notes with more Californian sweet, upfront concentration. A seriously delicious wine now, it should continue to improve over the next 5-8 years.
