Alcohol By Volume: 14.6%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Rich purple in its youth, the wines nose is full of fresh blackberries and ripe pomegranate. There are also aromatics of black pepper, mint and crushed flowers.  The weight of the wine is very lush with ripe cassis and fennel on the mid-pallet. The tannins are chalky and well rounded with some bright mountain acidity to complement them.  The finish is long and of creamed coffee.  This year the wine is much more approachable in its youth, but the wine will age gracefully over the next 8-10 years (2009-2017).

Critical Acclaim

"A big, bold and beautiful Cabernet. Will appeal to those who like the California style, although Bordeauxphiles will find it too ripe and fruity. Brims with blackberries, black cherries, currants, licorice and sweet toasted oak, wrapped into firm, mountain tannins. Now–2014."
92 Points

"A beauty, the deep, full-bodied 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Spring Mountain exhibits notes of blueberry pie, charcoal, wet steel, white flowers, and crushed rocks. Pure and dense, 2-3 years of bottle age is required, and it should keep for two decades."
91 Points

"Firm, ripe, intense and spicy, with dried currant, berry, sage and mineral flavors that are tight, focused and well-structured, ending with an aftertaste of loamy earth. Best from 2011 through 2018."
90 Points

"Medium ruby-red. Expressive aromas of crushed blackberry, blueberry, tobacco, earth, flowers and chocolatey oak. Juicy, sweet and pliant, with firm acidity framing the mountain berry flavors and providing verve. Not yet complex but high-toned in a positive way and quite young. Finishes with serious but sweet tannins."

Learn About Barnett Map ItMap It

Barnett Vineyards is located at the top of Spring Mountain with spectacular views of the Napa Valley 1700' below. Founded in 1983 by Fiona and Hal Barnett, this rocky mountainside is ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon and the blending varietals of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. In 1984, the first vines were planted in terraced rows with total plantings numbering fourteen acres by 1988. The vines yield an average of less than two tons of fruit per acre resulting in rich, intense wines that have become synonymous with the Barnett name.

Learn About Napa Valley

It's hard not to think of Napa Valley when thinking of California wines. The region is, after all, the one that brought world recognition to California wine making. The area was settled by a few choice wine families in the 1960's who bet that the wines of the area would grow and flourish. They were right. The Napa wine industry really took off in the 1980's, when vineyard...

Learn About Cabernet Sauvignon

(cab-uhr-NAY sow-veeh-yawn) King of Red Many refer to Cabernet Sauvignon as the king of red grapes. Perhaps that title is due to its ability to grow worldwide in a number of climates, or to the fact that it produces wine with such character yet such diversity. Either way, this grape is responsible, as a whole or a partner, for some of the greatest wines in the world. In Bordeaux,...
