Winemaker Notes

This elegant Pinot is medium ruby in color, and immediately gratifying in the perfume, spring rain and violet floral aromas that fill the glass. Fresh cherries and white pepper spice as well as gravel minerality and black tea are also prevalent. The mouth feel is fleshy, deceivingly full given the color. Brown sugar and crushed red currant are abundant on the palate, with soft tannin and firm acid rounding out the wine. This beautifully balanced wine will age gracefully over the next 7 years, from 2009 to 2016.

Professional Ratings

Ultraripe, rich and concentrated, pushing black cherry and wild berry to candied apple cherry sweetness, this nonetheless delivers, with a pure, rich, concentrated core of flavors. Full-bodied and pleasantly earthy, the finish is long and persistent. Drink now through 2015. 414 cases made.

Barnett Vineyards, California
Barnett Vineyards Winery Video
Barnett Vineyards is located at the top of Spring Mountain with spectacular views of the Napa Valley 1700' below. Founded in 1983 by Fiona and Hal Barnett, this rocky mountainside is ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon and the blending varietals of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. In 1984, the first vines were planted in terraced rows with total plantings numbering fourteen acres by 1988. The vines yield an average of less than two tons of fruit per acre resulting in rich, intense wines that have become synonymous with the Barnett name.

Internationally recognized for gorgeous, pure fruit combined with great elegance, California Pinot noir thrives among the state’s cooler, coastal zones. Characterized by eclectic flavors and aromas of strawberry, black cherry, plum and potpourri with notes of forest floor, mushroom or black tea, the best California Pinot noir boast a supple texture and good acidity, giving them the ability to improve with age.

Credited with the beginning of Pinot noir’s glory in California, two growers, Joe Rochioli and Joseph Swan in the late 1960s independently planted Pinot noir vineyards in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County. Today Sonoma County remains the leading producer of Pinot noir in the state, and Pinot noir is the leading red grape in the county, achieving its highest potential, in the Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast.

Other coastal appellations where Pinot noir flourishes include Carneros, Anderson Valley and most of the Central Coast.
