Bodegas Balbi offers wine lovers a rich heritage of French, Italian, Spanish, American and Argentine winemaking traditions. Founded in 1930 by Italian Juan Balbi, the winery was purchased by Spanish –influenced Allied Domecq in 1992, who significantly modernized the estate. French winemakers from Calvet in Bordeaux consult each season with the Balbi winemaking team, and California's Clos du Bois winemaker Margaret Davenport advised Balbi on an extensive new barrel aging program. With careful fruit selection from Mendoza's best vineyards and growing regions, Balbi combines European and American winemaking techniques to create a unique cultural expression of Argentine fine wines.

Most distinguished and celebrated from Argentina’s Mendoza, Malbec has seen runaway success since the early 2000s. Mendoza’s agreeable, continental climate with hot, dry summers and cold snowy winters allows the perfect conditions for growing outstanding Malbec. This grape is easy to like for its lusty, deep flavors and aromas of blackberry, plum, red cherry, autumn spice and tilled earth. It’s easy to find delicious, fruit-driven, affordable everyday examples and in prices beyond, quite exceptional ones with dense, supple textures that make them capable of aging.
