Alcohol By Volume Guide
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.
Focused and assertive, this bold modern white delivers ripe fruit flavors of pear and melon, accented by toasty, minerally and waxy notes. Powerful and harmonious, with the stuffing to age.

"For starters, I tasted two vintages of the Avanthia Godello, which is 100% Godello from a vineyard planted in 1975 at a whopping 450-meter altitude. The wine is barrel-fermented and aged in 600-liter French demi-muids prior to being bottled. (I actually purchased three cases of the 2010, and I’m down to my last five or six bottles after regularly drinking this wine over the last few months.) The winemaker here is a Kiwi, New Zealand native Alistair Gardner, and four hundred cases of the 2010 Godello made it to the United States. An absolutely sensational wine, with loads of lemon zest as well as hints of tangerine oil, quince and white currants, it displays no real evidence of any wood, although the wine cuts a relatively broad, medium to full-bodied swath across the palate."

"Light gold, with a hint of green. Citrus fruits, ginger, mint and minerals on the high-pitched nose. Intense and dry in the mouth, with serious power to its orchard fruit, spice and floral flavors. Finishes energetic and very persistent, with a strong jolt of minerality and excellent clarity. This baby will benefit from more bottle age, as the 2009 proved to me."
