Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.
The 2011 Merlot shows an inky garnet color. Aromas of rich ripe cherry, blueberry and floral perfume fill the glass. Graham cracker and butterscotch/vanilla notes from oak aging complement the ripe fruit aromas. The wine starts out smooth and then builds in inentisy culminating in a balanced finish with rich berry flavors. The minimal use of oak supports the fruit and frames raspberry flavors.

Avalon recommends decanting the wine, as returning to the glass after a few minutes the cherry aromas really begin to lift out of the glass and the flavors on the palate become richer and more captivating. Smooth, silky and profound berry flavors confirm this wine's birthplace as Napa Valley.
