Winemaker's Notes

The 2006 Pinot Noir UV Vineyard is fabulous. There are 500 cases of this Pinot Noir that does a California imitation of a Grands Echezeaux or Richebourg. The wine has a deep ruby/purple-tinged color and a gorgeous floral nose with forest floor and moss-like notes interwoven with acacia flowers, raspberries, and sweet currants. Light on its feet but full-bodied (the natural alcohol is pushing 16%), the wine has fabulous texture, expansiveness, and a remarkable finish.

Critical Acclaim

"Good deep, bright red. More earth and iron and less primary fruits and flowers on the nose, owing to the clay content in the soil. Then large-scaled and plump with fruit in the mouth, showing a sappy quality and more energy than the Rueling if not quite the same early pliancy. Blueberry and wild strawberry flavors emerged with air. Finishes lush and broad, with noble tannins and outstanding length."
94 Points

"Extremely promising, the closed 2006 Pinot Noir UV Vineyard boasts earthy, raspberry, red and black currant notes intermixed with subtle background oak, smoke, and charcoal. The tannins seem to creep up in the finish, something I did not notice last year. The most structured of these Pinots, it requires another 1-2 years of bottle age, and should last for 4-5 years."

But Sonoma, with her size, is able to vouch for more diversity within her borders, including sub-AVAs that are climatically varied. The atmosphere of Sonoma is decidedly laid back and down home country style. But in wines, they are keeping up with the...

Learn About Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir(PEE-noh nwahr) Pinot Noir is a finicky grape. It only grows in the right climate, with the right soils and the right care. Perhaps because it is so difficult is why it is so loved. Pinot Noir hails from Burgundy, a region known for crafting the most collectible and sought-after wines from this varietal. Not only does Pinot reign in Burgundy, it is also...
