Winemaker's Notes

The 2011 UV-SL Chardonnay exhibits dried fruit such as lemon, pineapple and even dried tree fruits in the aromas. Strong minerality and acidity frames the body with a vin du garde-like personality. Initially, there is a floral, high-toned elevation to candied fruits with heaps of wet stones. A wonderful green tint is in the edge of the color; this is reflective of the clonal material that Aubert selected for this vineyard site.

The wine has a slight hazy clarity showing our commitment to minimal interventional winemaking.

Critical Acclaim

"The 2011 Chardonnay UV-SL Vineyard emerges from a site on the Sonoma Coast seven miles from the ocean, just above Occidental. Apricots, peaches, wild flowers, nectarine and smoke are some of the multiple nuances in the glass. The UV-SL is another of the richer, more textured wines in the lineup. At the same time, the 2011 is a wine of vivid nuance, transparency and crystalline purity. Here, too, the 100% new oak barrels are totally integrated. It is so rare to find so much detail in this creamy, big Chardonnay, but it's all there. This is another utterly impeccable wine from Mark Aubert. "

"Makes points of subtlety and finesse, with touches of creamy, smoky oak woven into a fabric of fresh-cut apple and pear, gaining richness and depth and ending with a long finish."

Learn About Sonoma County

Twice as large as Napa in size, Sonoma County only makes about a half the amount of wine as her northeasterly neighbor. But Sonoma, with her size, is able to vouch for more diversity within her borders, including sub-AVAs that are climatically varied. The atmosphere of Sonoma is decidedly laid back and down home country style. But in wines, they are keeping up with the...
