Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

A blend of all the mountain appellations, Atlas Peak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon demonstrates power and structure and shows firm tannins and explosive fruit flavors.

Critical Acclaim

"Fruit stars in this young, rich Cabernet. It's as good as young, drink-me-now Napa Cab gets, offering waves of blackberries, cherries, plums, sweet oak and spices that go on and on into long finish. The tannins are perfectly ripe, the acidity fine and brisk. "

95+. Full of Cabernet fruit - blackcurrant with vanill and hints of coffee or chocolate and maybe plums or black cherry. Fruit forward, but certainly not sweet. In fact, judging from the 14.5% alcohol content the residual sugar is probably minimal. the fruit carries the alcohol very nicely. The tannins were soft and light, but I consider that a plus. I htought I was mistaken because its not likely to get a superb wine at this price point but my wife, who has a great palate, firmly agreed. Both of us felt this was better than the 08 Alexander Valley Silver Oak and at a fraction the price.

Vanilla oak, blackberry, and currant aromas with some spicy notes in the background. Bold blackberry, currant, plum, and oak flavors with surprisingly mild tannins. Hints of cocoa and chocolate emerge in the aromas and flavors on the first day as the wine airs in the glass. Tannins also emerge a bit more as the wine airs in the glass, but they remain smooth and not harsh. Second day similar to the first, with the tannins emerging a bit more in the flavors and finish. Third day generally similar to the second, with a cedar component becoming prominent in the aromas, and just a hint of alcohol in the finish. A big, full bodied, fruit-forward wine; smooth, with mild tannins that become a little more prominent on the second and third days after opening. Nice long finish with balanced fruit and tannins. A bit of fine sediment in the bottom of the bottle.

Learn About Atlas Peak Map ItMap It

Atlas Peak was established in 1987. Over time it became clear that Atlas Peak's most valuable hidden resource was literally underfoot: the elevation of its vineyards. The grapes growing at high elevation, and above the natural fog line, experience much lower daytime temperatures than those on the valley floor, allowing the grapes to stay cool while gaining maximum sun exposure. As...

Learn About Napa Valley

It's hard not to think of Napa Valley when thinking of California wines. The region is, after all, the one that brought world recognition to California wine making. The area was settled by a few choice wine families in the 1960's who bet that the wines of the area would grow and flourish. They were right. The Napa wine industry really took off in the 1980's, when vineyard...

Learn About Cabernet Sauvignon

(cab-uhr-NAY sow-veeh-yawn) King of Red Many refer to Cabernet Sauvignon as the king of red grapes. Perhaps that title is due to its ability to grow worldwide in a number of climates, or to the fact that it produces wine with such character yet such diversity. Either way, this grape is responsible, as a whole or a partner, for some of the greatest wines in the world. In Bordeaux,...
